China is getting bombarded with Hindi films and they are loving it. Aamir Khan has always released his films in the country, but with Dangal making insane money, filmmakers here spotted the potential of this neighboring area adding a lot of money in their kitty. Take the example of Secret Superstar. It was a modest hit here but earned a whopping Rs 800 crore in China. Clearly, the world’s second-largest film market is really interested in Hindi movies. Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman Khan’s debut in China, also clocked in record number at the box office. Now Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is also ready to test waters there.
Variety has reported that the film has cleared the censor scrutiny in China and now the makers are looking for a date to release it there. Baahubali 2 has massacred every record that there is in India when it released in April last year. Its Hindi dubbed version itself earned more than Rs 500 crore… something that no Khan laced film could ever do. It’s simply magnanimous! It has set a benchmark which will not be surpassed for many years to come, that’s because it looks impossible to earn the amount of money each and every version of this film has earned.
However, you can’t be too sure of its success in China. Baahubali: The Beginning also got a release there but saw modest earnings. It was nothing earth-shattering to write home about. In India, the first film was the only dubbed movie to earn Rs 100 crore and more. The second one only got bigger and bigger. It might go bigger there too but the thing is, such premises are not new to China. Their TV shows have much better visual effects, let alone their films. It needs to be seen if SS Rajamouli’s epic manages to create the same chaos there.
